Spring Season Exterior Maintenance Checklist

4/12/2022 (Permalink)

The spring season is right around the corner, so it’s time to assess your property for lingering issues caused by winter weather.  This should be done for homes and businesses alike.  When the temperature begins to rise, thawing occurs, so the issues tend to show themselves right about now.  Leaving these issues alone may lead to potential damage down the road.  Follow this checklist to insulate your property against springtime damage.

1.) Roof Check

A solid rooftop is one of the main pieces of your home. Guaranteeing it is strong and watertight is vital to keeping your whole home dry. Leaks can be caused by even the smallest gaps or tears in your shingles.  Inspect your entire roof to ensure that there are no weak areas like rips, tears, or missing shingles.  Repair anything as soon as possible.  You should also clean your gutters of any debris or obstructions.  This will allow your roof drainage system to function as intended.

2.) Structure Check

Check for any issues in the foundation, both inside and outside.  These can easily let excess water in.  Exterior walls should be checked as well, this time for missing siding, cracked siding, or compromised areas around your windows.  Make any necessary repairs, such as caulking around windows or doors.  Not only can moisture enter through these gas, but even slight airflow can affect your home heating or cooling costs.

It is important to contact a damage restoration professional as soon as you notice any storm damage.
